As part of their academic activities, students of the Faculty of Engineering participate in academic stays, conferences, academic competitions, and similar activities, whose arrangements are made personally and/or independently of UNAM mobility programs. Some of these opportunities are shared through our social media channels, while others are promoted by the academic divisions.
In these cases, participating students must follow the guidelines below.
When the activity is promoted by an academic department, it must ensure that its students comply with them.
For statistical and institutional tracking purposes, which also enable monitoring and assistance in case of emergencies, students are required to register their activity through the following form provided by the Internationalization Office.
For stays abroad, since the IMSS Student Health Insurance does not provide coverage outside Mexico, students must individually purchase health insurance with international coverage that includes repatriation of remains. This may be either travel or student insurance (such as Mundo Joven, Assist Card, etc.), or an existing family insurance policy that can be extended to include this coverage for the duration of the trip.
Medical coverage must be valid for the entire stay, from the day of departure from Mexico until the day of return.
In strict compliance with Circular 03/2013 regarding “Academic Exchange” (click here for more information), issued on September 4, 2013, by the UNAM Treasury and the UNAM Administrative Secretariat, students of our University who undertake academic stays associated with their activities as UNAM students must obtain Fieldwork Personal Accident Insurance for the duration of their stay.
The Fieldwork Insurance must be processed and paid for by the student, with the support of the academic unit promoting the stay*, at least 7 business days prior to the start of the coverage period.
Recommendations for Completing the Form*:
- Under ‘dependencia’ write “FACULTAD DE INGENIERÍA”.
- Under ‘área’, indicate the academic division that offers your degree program.
- Under Dates, include at least the days of the activity, considering additional days before and after for travel. Do not forget to update the year.
- Calculate the number of days by subtracting the dates and adding one to the result.
- Under “Tipo de transporte”: “Aéreo” (air) or “Terrestre” (ground), as applicable.
- Under ‘Actividades a desarrollar’ you may write “Estancia Académica”, “Competencia Académica”, “Congreso Académico”, etc., as appropriate.
- Under “No. de participantes” indicate the total number of people attending the stay, ensuring the rows are properly numbered.
- Mark an “X” in the “ALUMNO” column.
- In the “Porcentaje” column, delete the “100%” in any unused rows.
- The Social Security Number can be found in SIAE (next to the IMSS logo) or on the IMSS insurance booklet.
- The beneficiary cannot be the student; a direct family member is recommended.
- The form must be completed electronically, printed in duplicate, and signed in blue ink.
- Do not delete any rows; the form must retain all 17 rows.
To proceed with the payment and process the insurance, you must go to Cashier’s Office No. 3 in Building A, North Complex of the Faculty. At the cashier’s office, the insurance fee will be collected, one original copy of the form will be kept, and the other will be returned to you stamped as received with a reference number, along with a payment receipt.
* In the case of students participating in calls managed directly by the Internationalization Office, the process information will be provided to them as part of the follow-up to their participation.
