Research stays (short-term stays, thesis work, research projects, internships) Bachelor / Undergraduate

Students from other national and international institutions

Research areas and available options

For research stays, there is no fixed list of available options. The possibilities depend on the student’s interests or ongoing project, as well as on the availability of faculty members working on projects and research areas related to the student’s field of interest. It is a personalized process.

As a first step, we suggest checking the website of our academic departments, where some of the research groups and ongoing research lines are published. These may be of interest for your stay and could help you identify where you would like to participate. Please mention this in your statement of purpose.

Here is a summary of links:

Research Lines

If you do not find an option based on that information, the academic department will use the details you provide in your statement of purpose to identify a research group, project, or laboratory where you could carry out your stay.

Requirements and application

To have the information we need to check with our academic departments and see if it’s possible to host you, we would appreciate it if you could send the following documents to our email address movilidad@fi.unam.edu, so we can contact the appropriate department.

  1. A statement of purpose and detailed information about the activity you wish to carry out.
    - Please include the specific area of your interest, being as precise as possible, in which you would like to carry out your activity. This will help the academic department determine whether it is possible to host you and, if so, identify the appropriate faculty member to supervise your stay.
    - We also need the letter to include your proposed dates for the stay. Since research stays and internships are not tied to classes, the dates can differ from the academic calendar. We need to know the proposed period in order to review your request and for the academic department and/or the faculty member who may host you to confirm their availability.
    - If you are currently developing a project that you would like to complement or complete during the stay, please mention it as well.

  2. Personal documents
    - Academic transcript and proof of current courses, so we can have an overview of your academic background.
    - A brief CV.
    - A copy of your passport as an identification document. If you will obtain it later, you may send another form of ID.

  3. A letter of introduction from your home institution, confirming that your visit is an academic one supported by your university, and indicating the funding you would have for the stay..

  4. A professor’s recommendation letter from a faculty member you have worked with. Optional.

If the proposed stay is considered feasible, we would issue an invitation letter in your name for the stay, which you can use for the required procedures.
